Design problem:
The PG Bison competition brief asked for a South African destination hotel to be designed. The hotel was to be a unique space for South Africans to experience the destination and what it has to offer.
The surrounding beauty was to provide inspiration for the spatial layout, materials and furniture.
AI was needed to generate a starting point, that was analysed and developed.
Design solution:
Located in the Valley of Desolation, the Eastern Cape Province, is the Arid Sands Hotel. A destination hotel was to be designed for the 2024 PG Bison 1.618 Competition. PG Bison Melawood was used, with a notable colour scheme of tan, deep blush and peacock blue.
The barren, rocky location inspired the use of rock cladding for columns and walls.
Despite the hotel having an adult only rooftop bar for sundowners, there is a children's playroom and the pool area keeping the children busy.
