Honours: Design for Disability Remedial School

My Honours Research investigated the learning and physical environmental needs of neurodiverse learners, specifically learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Not all disabilities are visible. Therefore, it is essential for Interior Designers to implement certain design strategies to assist learners' productivity and concentration. The research explored ways in which Interior Designers can use spatial strategies and materiality to better support ASD learners in remedial schools. The design solution shows the redesign of an existing remedial school in Pretoria, South Africa. It shows the interactive, collaborative and individual working areas provided for ASD learners.
